marriage

Everyone in India can marry any one of opposite sex:

However, the following requirements are mandatory:
  1. Girl must cross 18 years and boy must cross 21 years.
  2. They must not be within prohibited relationship.
  3. They shall not have a spouse. Marrying again during the subsistence of previous marriage is illegal.
  4. If one belongs to Hindu, Muslim, etc. and if he/she wanted to marry a person from different religion, the marriage must be performed under Special Marriage Act only. Otherwise marry has no value in the eye of law.
  5. If both belong to same religion, they can marry as per their customs and rites or under Special Marriage Act.

The Hon'ble Supreme Court of India a year ago declared that man and woman living forlong as husband and wife shall be treated as husband and wife though there is no formal marriage.

This Opens new era of thinking in Indian legal system. This helps many women who have lived long and denied that status by affluent.
